FOREWORD
2025-2026 has been a landmark year for the
Children’s Book Project. Thanks to the
incredible support of our book collection
champions and from our funders we’ve been
able to double in size and for the first time
have gifted over one million carefully
presented books to children nationwide.
One million opportunities to choose
One million books in the hands of children
should, however, more accurately be thought
of as one million opportunities for children to
browse and choose for a book of their own.
One million occasions when a child has
selected a book they’re excited to take home
and share or read. One million moments
where a child finds a book that reflects their
interests. One million chances for a child to
see themselves as a reader.
Single-minded mission
We are clear that our focus is to tackle
book poverty: to put books into homes
where there are very few, often none at all.
Our single-minded offer for partner
organisations makes it easy for them to
dovetail our book gifting with their wider
literacy offer for children and families,
amplifying our collective impact.
The National Year of Reading
To seek the above within the 2026 National
Year of Reading has been particularly
motivating and we’re very proud to have
made a considerable contribution to the
ecosystem of literacy charities all working
hard this year to inspire the next generation
of readers, along with this having been
selected as one of the charity partners for
the inaugural Children’s Booker Prize.
Creative support from our partners
We’re very grateful to have again benefited by support from JCDecaux’s Community Channel, to
have had Manchester United FC and Liverpool FC Community Foundations champion our launch
in each city and again in Glasgow with the support of HarperCollins UK at their Robroyston
warehouse. We’re also incredibly excited to be a charity partner for the launch of Julia
Donaldson’s new book, Gruffalo Granny.
